Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose Canine Country Club?
We’ve cared for countless dogs in the greater Des Moines metro area since opening in 2010. Our owner and managers have extensive experience in handling dogs of all sizes and temperaments, including dogs with special needs, competition dogs, working/service dogs, and police dogs. We provide ongoing education for our staff members on dog handling, behavior, body language, first aid/CPR, group play management, and socialization.
What are your vaccination requirements?
For the safety of all our guests, we require proof of current vaccinations for rabies, distemper/parvo, and Bordetella. For puppies, we require the first two rounds of distemper/parvo and the Bordetella vaccination. Rabies is not required until the puppy has reached 16 weeks of age. Every dog who attends Canine Country Club must also be on a flea and tick preventative year-round.
What should I bring for my dog’s boarding stay?
To keep your pet on the diet and routine they’re used to, we require pet parents bring their dog’s usual food, labeled and sealed in individual baggies or plastic containers. If you forget to individually bag your pet’s food, we can bag it for you, or you can use the bagging station in our lobby for a small fee. We also have high quality foods on hand if needed, for a nominal charge per meal. Feel free to bring your dog’s preferred treats, or we can give them ours.
If your pet takes medications, it must be provided in the original containers with the dosage and prescribing veterinarian’s information visible. We can administer topical and oral medications for a small fee per dose (or your pup can enjoy our TLC Package which includes unlimited meds). We’re not able to provide insulin or other injected medications.
Personal belongings are allowed in our Standard Suite and Special Needs Suite accommodations—feel free to bring their bedding, blankets, toys, or anything else they need to feel comfortable. Pets staying in our Economy Suite cannot bring personal items due to the construction of these suites; they have a 1-inch gap at the bottom, so curious neighbors may try to grab personal belongings.
Please don’t bring any rawhides, rope toys, small toys, and bones that may present a possible health hazard.
I’ve never boarded my dog before. What can I do to make sure they’re comfortable?
While it’s not required, we recommend visiting us for dog daycare before your pup’s first boarding visit. This helps them get to know our resort and staff so they’re fully familiar when it comes time for their stay. If your pup is especially uneasy, a stay in one of our Standard Suites or Special Needs Suites may be the best for the enhanced privacy and ability to have personal items.
How do you keep the dogs safe and healthy?
We take great pride in our level of cleanliness at Canine Country Club. We sanitize and disinfect our entire facility every day and have state-of-the-art UV air purification. We maintain an exceptional safety record with smaller daycare groups, a low dogs-to-staff ratio, and enhanced supervision. Vaccination requirements keep our guests healthy, and daily wellness checks provide a written record of health and behavior day to day.
Can my puppy attend daycare? What do they need?
Absolutely, we LOVE our puppy daycare guests! It’s highly beneficial and helps puppies build their social skills and confidence with positive exposure to new sights, sounds, and experiences. We require puppies to have their first two rounds of distemper/parvo and their Bordetella vaccinations. Rabies is not required until 16 weeks of age.
My dog isn’t spayed/neutered. Can they still come play?
For their safety, dogs over the age of 6 months must be spayed or neutered to join group play. However, we’re more than happy to provide one-on-one play with a caregiver to unaltered dogs of any age.
Do you have any breed restrictions?
All breeds are welcome at Canine Country Club.
What is a temperament test and why does my dog have to do one?
Safety is our number one priority at Canine Country Club. For that reason, all dogs undergo a temperament test to ensure suitability for group, and we’re happy to provide one-on-one playtimes for pups who don’t prefer social play.
